Welcome to the USS Rubicon!!
The year is 2370. Six years after the Romulan Star Empire broke half a century of silence and returned to the Neutral Zone, the border is quiet in every sense but the official one. Cloaked warbirds patrol territory they insist they never enter. Starfleet runs "routine" sweeps that are anything but. A single lost nerve on either side could turn a cold war hot.
On paper, the USS Rubicon is an aging Excelsior-class cruiser running border patrols out of Starbase 234 under Commander Wade Samstone. Dull work on a quiet line. That is the cover, and it is a good one — because the Rubicon is a black operations platform, and her real purpose is the part that never reaches a log.
She carries Blackwatch: the teams who run the missions the Federation can never be caught running. Crossing the line to take a target no one will admit was taken. Getting into places that don't officially exist and out again before anyone knows they were breached. Extractions, sabotage, raids for the intelligence that keeps the peace — all of it done in the dark, by hand, deniable from the first step to the last. Her operators volunteer for it, shed their names for it, and accept the hardest term of the work: if they fall where they cannot be recovered, they are erased, so that the line holds and the war never comes.
This is the story of those teams. Will you stand the watch with us?

A little over two hours had passed since the oath in Cargo Bay Two, long enough for the implant procedures to be completed, the initial medical observation period to pass, and the new members of Blackwatch to be given access to the decks that had been closed to them before that morning.
Marn had not gone back to his quarters.
Instead, he had made his way to Deck 19 and into the Blackwatch Operations Center, following the access indicators through a corridor that had been deliberately desig...

"You make it sound appealing" Solana said with a slight smile. Pembroke informed her that he'd spent twelve years developing his bedside manner, and she assured him that it showed.
He chose to ignore that and continued examining the kit. "You'll have considerable latitude in the field, more than you would on an ordinary Starfleet away mission" Pembroke said. He made it clear that the latitude was necessary rather than charitable; if Solana was thirty kilometers from extraction with somebody cr...

Solana had most of the medical equipment spread across one side of the transports mission bay when she heard someone enter behind her. The transport was still sitting aboard the Rubicon, which made it the best time to decide what actually belonged aboard and what was simply taking up space. Her field pack sat open on the deck beside a rolled recovery litter, two compact trauma cases, and enough specialized medical equipment to make an ordinary away-team kit look optimistic by comparison.
She w...

Adrian had been in the examination room for eleven minutes, which meant the room had been ready for nine of them. There was very little to prepare for a routine flight physical, even one attached to Blackwatch. The diagnostic bed had completed its calibration, the neurovestibular scanner rested beside it, and the pilot's file was already open on the medical display. Pembroke had left the more elaborate systems idle. If he needed them, he would use them; turning on every instrument in Sickbay mer...
» Cold Start - Part 2
Reed paused with his hand still inside the housing and asked exactly how slow she wanted him to go. "Until I tell you to stop" Jessica said, keeping her attention on the receiver. He glanced across the assembly at her, clearly considering the possibilities in such an open-ended instruction. "That's dangerously vague." Jessica finally looked up from the display. "Reed." Whatever comment he had been about to make died behind a small smile as he turned back to the component. "Moving." He eased it f...
