Starbase 234 and the Patrol Region

Starbase 234 is the Rubicon's home port and the anchor of Federation presence on this stretch of the Neutral Zone. From here the ship runs patrols along a border region dense with flashpoints: the Epsilon Outposts, a line of monitoring stations strung along the Zone whose silence is always the first sign of trouble; the nearby systems that shade toward Klingon space; and the long, watched emptiness of the Zone itself, beyond which lie Romulan border systems and the warbird patrols that never quite show themselves. It is a region where three powers' spheres press against one another, and where the Rubicon is often the only Federation ship close enough to keep a small incident from becoming a large one.
