Lieutenant Junior Grade Solana Vey “Damona”

Solana is attractive and athletic, with warm olive-brown skin, dark brown eyes, and long dark hair that she usually keeps tied back while on duty. She has an expressive face and an easy smile, and carries herself with the natural confidence of someone comfortable in her own skin.

She keeps herself in good physical condition, partly because she enjoys it and partly because field medicine has a habit of requiring her to carry people considerably larger than she is.

Solana is outgoing, confident, and difficult to intimidate. She is a go-getter by nature and has very little patience for standing around discussing a problem when something can be done about it. In an emergency she tends to move first, get control of the situation, and worry about everything else afterward.

She has a strong streak of gallows humor, particularly when things are going badly. It is rarely meant to be dismissive; humor is simply how she keeps herself and the people around her from becoming overwhelmed when a situation turns ugly.

Despite her easy personality, she takes medicine seriously and becomes sharply focused when someone is hurt. She is comfortable working outside Sickbay and actively prefers field assignments to waiting for casualties to be brought to her.

Strengths. Solana is an excellent trauma nurse and particularly good at field medicine, triage, and keeping patients stable under difficult conditions. She thinks quickly, doesn't freeze when things become violent, and is willing to go where the injured are rather than waiting somewhere safe for them to arrive.

She is also a good phaser shot and takes her weapons qualifications seriously. She doesn't consider herself a soldier, but she believes a field medic who cannot protect herself or her patient is eventually going to become another casualty.

Weaknesses. Solana's confidence can push her into situations she probably should wait for Security to clear first. She has a tendency to believe that if she can physically reach a casualty, she should, regardless of how much danger is between them.

Her humor can also land badly with people who aren't used to her. She has been known to make jokes during moments when everyone else in the room thought silence might have been more appropriate.

Solana is social and dislikes spending all of her free time in her quarters. She enjoys swimming, dancing, exercise, good food, and almost any excuse to get people together when the ship is off duty.

She also spends more time on the firing range than most medical personnel and considers weapons practice another professional skill rather than a hobby, although she enjoys it more than she generally admits.

Solana was born and raised on Risa and grew up in a large, close family. She had a comfortable childhood and originally became interested in medicine because she liked working directly with people and wanted a career where what she did had an immediate effect on someone's life.

She entered Starfleet Academy on the nursing track and quickly showed an aptitude for emergency and trauma medicine. During training she volunteered for field exercises whenever possible and became considerably more interested in operational medicine than traditional Sickbay work.

Her first assignments gave her experience aboard starships and on away teams, where she earned a reputation for remaining calm around serious injuries and for being considerably harder to scare than most people expected from a young nurse.

She pursued additional field medical and weapons qualifications on her own initiative. She was never interested in becoming Security, but believed strongly that anyone expected to treat casualties in hostile conditions should be capable of getting themselves and their patient back out again.

That combination of medical ability, initiative, and willingness to work under fire eventually brought her to Blackwatch aboard the USS Rubicon, where she serves as a field nurse and medical specialist.
